Book Review: A Certain Hunger by Chelsea Summers

This book was genius, uncomfortable, taboo, addictive; I could go on and on. It’s dark, devilish, and perfect for anyone who loves a taboo read and being forced to confront the uncomfortable.

Be warned that this book has themes of cannibalism, and was very detailed. It’s interesting to check out the books that Chelsea Summers read on her Goodreads, as she clearly did her research! I love taboo books, but I can’t imagine what it must have been like to do all the research necessary for the detailed food aspects of this book.

One of the best parts about this book is that Dorothy’s motives are selfish but realistic, though I can’t say relatable. Dorothy Daniels is ice cold and I loved every part of her. She’s so self aware about her psychopathy and is unapologetic in every way. She is, in a word, wynorrific (beautiful and horrifying, I had to do a bit of googling to find the perfect word).

Chelsea Summers did an incredible amount of research for this book, which was clear from the tangents about food, food processing, travel, crime research, and more. I would describe her writing style as almost erotic, which is probably odd to hear about a woman who sometimes kills and eats her lovers. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for something a little cold and very taboo.
