Book Review: The Wolf Den by Elodie Harper

This was easily one of my top five books of 2022. This book is candid, fascinating, heart-wrenching, but also heart-warming and powerful.

For whatever reason, this book is tagged as ‘fantasy’ on Goodreads, but it is NOT fantasy, it is historical fiction. The third book, The Temple of Fortuna, is expected to be released on November 23, 2023.

In The Wolf Den, we follow Amara, a slave forced to work in a notorious brothel in Pompeii. Amara is willing to do just about anything to gain her freedom. I’m obsessed with Amara and who she is. All of the characters in this book are so well developed and complex, down to the most minor patrons of The Wolf Den. The settings and world building were phenomenal and well-researched. Be prepared because this is an emotional roller coaster in the best possible way!!

Elodie Harper does an incredible job mirroring the struggles of modern day women to those in ancient Pompeii. This book is full of feminist themes and amazing characters, and is an absolute must read for fans of historical and/or literary fiction!!
